About
Sensory Processing/Integration
"Sensory integration is the ability to organize sensory information for use... that enables man to interact effectively with the environment" (Ayers)
We constantly receive sensory information (vision, auditory, tactile etc.), and then the brain interprets it and turns it into appropriate motor and behavioral responses. When the information is not appropriately perceived or organized, it causes us movement, behavioral and functional difficulties. Please refer to Sings of SPD.

What is
Occupational
Therapy?

Occupational therapy helps children develop the skills they need to participate confidently in everyday life.
These skills include self-care, play, learning, social interaction, emotional regulation, and other daily activities that support healthy development and well-being.
Every child has unique strengths, interests, and ways of learning. We take the time to understand each child's individual needs and provide evidence-based, family-centered support through meaningful and engaging activities. Our goal is to help children build the physical, sensory, cognitive, emotional, and social skills they need to become more independent, confident, and successful at home, at school, and in their communities.
Our Mission

Our mission is to help children build strong foundations for lifelong learning, independence, and meaningful participation in everyday life.
We provide individualized, evidence-based occupational therapy in a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where every child feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed. Through play, positive relationships, and purposeful activities, we help children develop the confidence and skills they need to thrive at home, in the classroom, and in their communities.

Why "Root"?
Just as a healthy tree grows from strong roots, every child thrives when their developmental foundations are well supported.
Foundational skills—such as sensory processing, emotional regulation, attention, motor coordination, self-regulation, and executive functioning—form the roots that support learning, friendships, independence, and emotional well-being. When these underlying skills are strong, children are better prepared to grow into confident, capable learners.
The name Root reflects our philosophy of looking beyond the challenges seen on the surface to understand and strengthen the underlying skills that support everyday success. Rather than focusing only on difficulties, we recognize each child's unique strengths and build upon them through playful, purposeful, and developmentally appropriate therapy.
At Root Occupational Therapy Services, we are committed to helping children flourish while empowering families, educators, and communities to support each child's journey toward lifelong growth and participation.
